Shahid Afridi Gives PCB Strong Message On Travelling to India For 2023 WC
With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) remaining adamant in their decision to not travel to Pakistan for the 2023 Asia Cup and play the tournament at a neutral venue, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remains persistent in their stance of not giving up the hosting rights.
PCB has proposed a hybrid model that will allow India to play their matches outside Pakistan while other games are played within the country. Nothing has been officially announced yet, and no solution has yet been found or agreed upon. Pakistan has also threatened to boycott the 2023 World Cup in India if the Asia Cup is shifted outside Pakistan.
However, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi urged PCB chief Najam Sethi to allow the Babar Azam-led team to travel to India. Afridi stated that Sethi must tell his team to go and win the World Cup and stated that Pakistan landing back with the trophy will be a big slap to the BCCI.

“I don’t understand why they [PCB] are so adamant and keep saying that we won’t go to India. They need to simplify the situation and understand that an international cricket tournament is happening – take it rather positively; go and play. Tell your boys to get the trophy; the whole nation stands behind you. It’ll not only be a big win for us but a tight slap in the face of BCCI,” said Afridi on Samaa.TV.
“Go to India, play decent cricket and claim the win. This is it; we have only this option resorted to ourselves. We are supposed to go there, land back with the World Cup and give them a steer clear message that we can go anywhere and bag the victory,” he added.
India has not travelled to Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup due to the strained political relations between the countries. While the two teams last played a bilateral series on Indian soil in 2012–13, Pakistan’s last visit to India was in 2016 for the T20 World Cup under Shahid Afridi’s captaincy.
